Style Extension Functions project implements the "XSLT Map Style Sheet Specification" which a draft document accepted as such by the OpenGIS Consortium. The document defines the constraints on Map Style Sheets written in XSLT, and used for the transformation of GML (Geography Markup Language) to SVG. The specification defines the high level structure of a GML XSLT Map Style Sheet and the required extension functions that must be implemented by the XSLT Style Engine provider. The reason extension functions are created and required when using XSLT for creating SVG output is that XSLT is not computationally complete. The current version of this specification applies only to XSLT Style Sheet that produce SVG output. Extension functions are thus used only in XSLT Style Sheets that produce SVG output, but are not limited to that. They are generic extension functions that can be, if needed used in some other type of style sheets. The GML XSLT Style Extentions were written by Xia Li and contributed by Galdos Systems Inc.
